Family Fun!

For family night this week, we went bowling on base. It is so great to have it less than a mile from our house, so clean, and smoke-free! They also have programable bumpers, which only come up when it's the boys' turn, little shoes for them, and the handicap ramp for Gunner. It's so fun! In December we bought some bowling discount cards, and it has been a fun family outing to look forward too. Our boys get SO excited to go! Andrew and I enjoy doing it too (we went bowling on our first date over 8 1/2 years ago!). People gave me some looks with my big belly...and I have to admit I am not as coordinated pregnant, but the Gunner/Mom team beat the Cooper/Dad team still. :)
Cooper is turning in to a great bowler. He still uses the bumpers, but doesn't need them near as much. He knows all the terms (I think from bowling on the Wii), and does a great job at running and throwing the ball.

Gunner is amazing. Last time we went, he beat us all. This time, Andrew and I barely beat him. He got 2 strikes on Monday! He was so excited and could not stop telling us.

After bowling we had our Family Home Evening "treat" of dinner at Qdoba. I am in love with fresh mexican food this pregnancy...and am really missing Cafe Rio, but I love this place too! (You would think I would learn to stay away from mexican with all my heartburn...but no can do!) The boys all love their nachos. Nachos are one of Cooper's new favorite foods.

The other night we went to the indoor pool in Highland where they have the kiddie pool, lazy river, and the "Vector" (a toilet bowl that spins you around. Cooper and Gunner both had a blast swimming. They brought a few toys and loved playing "hit" with Dad (hitting a ball back and forth). We made Cooper practice swimming without his life jacket, but I think he has gotten way too comfortable and good with it on. We found out he is 4 months too young for soccer this Spring, so we were going to put him in swimming lessons. He was excited until he found out we wouldn't be swimming with him, and he couldn't wear his life jacket. He said, "I'll just learn to do that when I turn 5."

As many of you probably saw, the other night was a total lunar eclipse. We set the timer and went out to look every 30 minutes. It was pretty neat. Trying to explain it to a 4-year-old was kind of difficult though, but Cooper still thought it was neat. (For those of you who don't know, you can click on any pictures to enlarge them.)

Here are a few more Valentines Day pictures from our playgroup that I just finally uploaded. The cute little girl is Emma. She is Cooper's Valentine. :) I was reading them some Valentine stories, and Clifford gives Emily a kiss on the cheek, and Emma turned and gave Cooper a big kiss on the cheek. It was so cute. She is probably Cooper's best friend here.

February Fun!

Early this month, we had a "snow day". I about died when I heard they were only having "mandatory personnel" go to work at the Air Force Base for 6 inches of snow! Lucky for us, the Dental Corp isn't "mandatory", so we got to have Dad home for the day! We went to the newly remodeled Chuck E. Cheese and had a blast. Andrew and I even enjoyed the "Deal or No Deal" game. Then we played in the snow and made a snowman. Cooper found a good hiding place from Dad's snowballs...behind the tree.

Valentines Day was a lot of fun too. Cooper gets WAY excited for any holiday, so that makes it more fun. We went to a little party on-base, and a Valentines Day playgroup the next day. We made heart-shaped pepperoni pizza and cupcakes.

I took the boys to Walmart to pick a valentine for Dad. We got a brand new Walmart, and things were laid out really clean and fresh, and easy to see. Unfortunately, the fish were a little too easy to see for my boys. All they wanted to get Dad were fish! Finally, I gave in, we got Dad 3 fish and a fishbowl, and Cooper made him this fish Valentine that said, "You're a great catch Dad!" My boys got me Monopoly Junior to play with them and a Cold Stone gift card (way better than an overpriced box of chocolates!)

Pregnancy countdown!

Well, it's down to 11 1/2 weeks remaining! I have done a really bad job of documenting this pregnancy, so I thought I'd dedicate a post to the pregnancy so far.

The first picture I took at 16 weeks to send to my friends, because I couldn't believe I was already this big so soon! It has to be the fact that it's the 3rd baby, right?!

What is sad, is I hadn't taken another picture until these ones today...

I don't know about everyone else, but this 3rd pregnancy I feel like I have gotten SO big SO fast!

*DUE DATE: May 7th, 2008

*CRAVINGS: Cheerios, Grape Nuts, Reeses, Progresso Split Pea and other Soups, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches, pop, Wheat Thin chips, pretzels, fresh Mexican food, Peanut Butter Fiber One bars, Thomas brown sugar and cinnamon mini-bagels with whipped cream cheese, pickles and tuna fish, red vine licorice, movie popcorn

*Got pregnant on our 5th month of CLOMID, and the month after Dad got back from 5 weeks at Officer Training in Alabama, and within days of arriving at our new home at Scott Air Force Base, IL near St. Louis, MO. They were going to make me take a break from trying after our 6th month of clomid, so we were really happy!

*SICK until 19 weeks (took Zofran and Phenegran...the magic pills!). Have to use extra-strength tylenol and caffeine pop to get rid of headaches. Zantac 4 times a day for heart burn, since about 9 weeks. Love our new Memory Foam mattress for comfort while sleeping!

*COOPER loves to remind us you are still there. He involves you in everything. When we landed in Spokane this Christmas he said, "Baby, guess what, we landed, how was your flight?!" After I eat he says, "Hi baby, how was your food." After I sleep, "Hi baby, how was your sleep?" He is always cupping my tummy with both hands and talking to you. It is so fun. He loves seeing other babies too, and saying "Our baby will be little like that, mom? The baby will go waa-waa, and I will hold it and say, 'It's ok baby'". I hope he is as big of a help as he is planning on being!

*GUNNER loves to "see the baby", which means I have to lift my shirt and pull down my pants, so I have a full bare belly. He loves to blow bubbles on my tummy (we call them zerberts).

*SEX: Dad thought you were a girl, Cooper and I thought you were a boy. On December 13th we had our ultrasound (just a short walk across the hospital parking lot from our house on Scott Air Force Base). You were a BOY! Cooper said, "I just knew it!" I said I wasn't disappointed at all, but I for sure wanted 4 kids now. Dad said, "I don't know if I can handle 4 boys!" (implying the next will probably be a boy too...which it probably will :) ). We celebrated with pizza that night. You can see the pictures and read more about it on an earlier post.

*KICKING: I didn't feel you move until I was about 23 weeks! I was worried, but at the 20-week ultrasound, they said my placenta was in front this time, so that is why I hadn't felt you move. You are a lot more active now, but I still don't feel you as much, or as early as I did with the first two.

*NAMES: We were considering for a girl Jersey, Dixie, Summer (Cooper and Dad's favorite) and others. But since you are a BOY! we have been thinking Easton, Beckett, Mitt, Parker, Wrigley (VOTE IN OUR POLL ON THE RIGHT COLUMN OF OUR BLOG!). Middle names we like right now are Leo and Jay.

*FAVORITE CLOTHES: I loved wearing the Gaucho pants from Aunt Brynne, the black valor jumpsuit from Grandma Larson, and my American Star Jeans from Aly's garage sale. :) Also loved the down vests I got from GAP.

*3D ULTRASOUNDS: the tech on-base did after-hours, 3D ultrasounds at 26 and 28 weeks to try and get a good picture of you, just for fun. At 26 weeks you had your foot in front of your face and your umbilical cord, and you wouldn't move!
{Click on the picture to enlarge}

At 28 weeks, you had your face in my hip-bone. We finally got you to move, and you stuck your face right in my placenta...so our 3D shots didn't make the "wall of fame" at the office, but we still thought it was fun to get to see you a few extra times! Cooper said, "I think he's got my nose!" Dad said, "Yep, your nose, and Gunner's twerpiness!" (since he wasn't cooperating :) ).

January in St. Louis

I really can't believe January is over, but I have to say I am not too sad to see it go. We did do some fun things, but I am itching to get outside more, and so are the boys.

We actually got lucky today though. It snowed about 5 inches last night, and they only made "mandatory personnel" go to work today at the Air Force Base. So we got to have Dad home! We went to Chuck E. Cheese (which just got remodeled and is huge and fun now!), and the mall to do some returns and lunch.

Cooper has loved spending Saturdays playing Mighty Ball Basketball! Yes, they do basketball for 4 and 5 year olds with smaller balls and 8-foot hoops. He gets so excited for his games, he can't sleep the night before. It is so fun. The only disappointment has been we missed the first week, and the coach has forgot his team shirt 3 weeks in a row. :) His coach actually does a great job with the kids! He is a high school basketball player. Cooper does get better each week, but it is funny how literally they take direction. I told him to put his "hand in their face" on defense, and he literally stuck his hands in a little boys face. :) He loves to steal the ball and run the length of the court (without dribbling), and shoot it up. They spend about 40 minutes practicing and about 20 minutes playing a game. It has been a perfect introduction for him to organized sports, and he already can't wait for soccer and t-ball!

We love watching him too, except that our cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing by the end. :) It just kills Gunner to not get to play too, so Andrew and I play on the side with him.

Our boys are playing better and better together, and it is cute seeing them defend each other. Cooper often says, "be nice to Gunner Mom, he just meant to...". Cooper loves to teach Gunner how to do things. They also get into trouble together too. :) They love to sneak treats in the kitchen, and we often find them sitting inside a cracked fridge with chocolate chips, cheese, juice, etc.

The "skeleton skateboard" shirt Cooper has on in this picture has been hilarious (thanks for the hand-me-down Riley!). He loves to wear it so much. He wore it two days in a row this week, because it wasn't worth the fight. As soon as we got in the grocery store, and Costco, he says, "Mom, will you take my coat off? I want people to see my cool shirt. If other kids see it, they will want one like it from the Easter Bunny." Too cute.

Another cute story from the other day, was Cooper was trying some more recent hand-me-downs on from his cousin, Tate (thanks Waites!). He said, "Mom, I smell something." I said, "do you need to go potty or something?" He said, "No, I smell my cousin Tate far away!". He was smelling their clothes that he was trying on, and remembered it smelled like them! So cute.

Cooper and Gunner do their "quiet time" before naps and bedtime on our bed watching the shows they pick at the library that week. Gunner has been wearing this visor to bed for a week. It is fun to go in and see them both asleep next to each other...often times holding hands. Aren't they cute when their sleeping. :) Gunner has to be moved to his crib still though, if we want him to stay asleep very long.

**I have to add that we recently got a memory foam mattress topper from Costco, and we LOVE IT! We had a down mattress pad before, but this beats all! Andrew used to wake up with back aches, and we thought we needed a new mattress, but this solved all the problems. I am so much more comfortable pregnant too!**

We have had a few fun family outings this month too.

We went to Family Story Night with Frosty at the library on-base.

We also went to the "Magic House" children's museum on MLK Day. The boys got to meet Clifford there. They also loved fishing in the fake pond, the lego race track, the ball experiments, the water room, and the sand. It is an amazing children's museum and huge! They also have lots of fun facts all over the walls. One of my favorites was "The average 4-year-old asks 437 questions a day!" Cooper is average. :) We went with our friends the Whittles, and then had a great lunch at Uno's.

Playgroup last Friday was a Family Swim Night at a rec center nearby with an "indoor waterpark". The big slide was too big for the kids, and they didn't let the kids in the hot tub, but they loved the toddler area, the "vortex" toilet bowl area, swimming the lazy river, and jumping in. Gunner actually got really cuddly at the end, and when we got home he had a 102 degree temperature! Poor guy was shivering some, but we had no idea! He was a good sport though.

We love our Prophet!

We just heard the news that President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away about an hour ago. Sunday, January 27, 2008 at age 97. What a dear prophet he was. By far, he is the prophet I can remember the most about, and who I have learned the most from. What an amazing, amazing man. I will always remember his sweet demeanor, his deep love for the saints, his sense of humor, his "matter of fact" attitude, his amazing strength, and his example. Although he was 84 when he was called as prophet, he has always seemed so young, has traveled so much, and given an estimated 2,000 talks around the world! I know I got chills each time he would come to the pulpit. Especially, recently, when he said he didn't know why the Lord kept sparing his life and that "my life belongs to the church". What an example of how we should all live our lives.

As I mentioned, he has been around my whole life. He has been in the First Presidency since the year I was born (having been a member of the 12 apostles for 20 years prior to that), and he has been Prophet since I was about 14 years old. I have a hard time thinking I'll ever forget him...or even "move on", although I love President Monson (assuming he'll become the next prophet), and he has been around forever too. He has always seemed so young to me, but he turns 81 this year. I guess life keeps going.

I know President Hinckley is probably so happy he is having a reunion with his sweetheart, and so relieved that he didn't have to have a long, drawn-out illness. He lived such an amazing life, and I love him so much. I am so grateful for his big push to build more temples. Because of him, the Spokane, WA "small" temple was built, which is where Andrew and I were sealed for eternity. It was so neat to hear him speak at the dedication. The temple is actually off the "Opportunity" exit in the Spokane Valley, and I remember him saying, "what a perfect place for a temple...there are great 'opportunities" to be had here". There were only 47 temples when he became Prophet, and now there are 124 working temples, with 12 more under construction. It has been amazing to visit all the newly restored church history sites, as we have lived in the NE, most of which were restored under his direction.

One last thought, I will never forget teaching my first two children, Cooper and Gunner about our Prophet, and hearing Cooper pray for President Hinckley.

Gunner hits the TERRIFIC (and terrible) 2's!!!!!!

Although this is a little late, I wanted to do a "tribute to Gunner" post. He turned 2 on December 29th. We were still in the Northwest visiting family. He got his first Happy Birthday song at the Gatten Reunion with all the December and January birthdays. Then, on his birthday, we went to Chuck E. Cheese with Grandpa and Grandma Larson and the Waite's (Andrew's sister's family). We had a "Cars" (the disney movie) themed table cloth and party hats. Artie made yummy lemon cupcakes, and Gunner had a blast!

From us he got a Mega Mack Playtown, and lots of the "Cars" hot wheels. He also got spoiled by grandparents and family. Cooper got him some Spiderman action figures.

Gunner is such a sweet boy (most of the time!). Everyone asks if he is always smiling. The answer is, he smiles all but about 1 hour of the day. He gets his daily fit in...usually around 10am...or when we have to leave somewhere where he is having fun. He definately does his best ot get his way when he wants to. :) He is such a talker, and makes it hard to say "no" to him because he almost always says please, thank-you, and your welcome. Here are a few more fun facts about Gunner at age 2!

When he wakes up in the morning he immediately is asking for eggs and bagels. He also loves to ORGANIZE! He is always lining his toys up and knocking them down...and will play by himself for a while. He always has something in each hand...or more. Loves nursery. Has to have his hat on before we walk out the door, but doesn't always keep it on. Loves making "baskets", hitting "home-runs!", bowling "strikes", and soccer.

Gunner, we love you SOOOOOOOO much! You always make us laugh, especially when you blow on mom's tummy to say hi to the baby! You are Cooper's best friend. He loves you so much too. Thanks for being such a fun boy.

2007 Christmas Memories!

Well, we're finally back in St. Louis (welcomed by a flood in our house I might add! Good thing we're renting!). We spent 3 weeks visiting family in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene. Andrew was with us for 2 of the weeks. It was TONS of fun, and we miss everyone already! Here are some of the highlights of our trip:

*GATTEN FAMILY REUNION 12/23-12/29: 7 of 8 of my siblings, and their families (my brother Spike is on a mission in Brazil) gathered at a Resort in Hope, Idaho. There were 32 of us in 4, 2-bedroom condos, which made for craziness and lots of fun! The men cut down Christmas trees for each room, and we painted ornaments and strung popcorn and cranberries to decorate them. We spent our time swimming, working out (including my first attempt at yoga dance!), playing raquetball and late-night wallyball (so fun!). We went sledding (Cooper loved the jump), skiing, watched movies, did crafts, played games, and ate a ton! We also celebrated December and January birthdays (which included Andrew's 30th and Gunner's 2nd). Family Home Evening and Christmas Eve were so spiritual and fun. It was especially fun for me to watch the boys interact with all their cousins and become even better friends.

The whole "Gatten Gang"

All the cousins (and there's 3 more on the way!)

Oldest (right) to Youngest (left) of the Gatten parents and kids (except Spike, the youngest, on a mission). I love my brothers and sisters!

The married siblings and their spouses

*COOPER'S FIRST TIME SKIING!: Cooper was so anxious to ski! He got a private lesson from his Uncle Dusty. He just took off! It was so fun. I skiied with him and his cousin Noah the 2nd half the day, and it was so much fun! The conversations on the chair-lift were priceless.
Cooper: "Mom, you pretend to be Santa Clause, and I'll pretend to be a kid."
Mom: "Ok kid, what do you want for Christmas?"
Cooper: "A snowboard, because I already have these skiis (pointing down to the rentals)"
Too bad it was already Christmas Eve! He did a total of 2 trips down the little bunny hill and 9 trips down the big bunny hill. He was zooming past teenagers and adults who were learning saying, "I'm so fast like a snowmobile!" His other favorite was jumping on his skiis so he could "go faster". The only time he cried the whole day was when the guy told him the chair-lift was closing. So fun! I am excited to live closer to skiing someday and have a ski partner. It melted my heart! That night, when we were talking about opening presents the next morning, he said, "And then, after we open our presents, we can go skiing again?!" So fun! Pictures will have to come later since I didn't have my own camera up there.

*CHRISTMAS MORNING: My brother took his family home for Christmas morning at their own house, so we had the condo to ourselves. It was so fun. Cooper loved putting cookies out for Santa and talking about him coming down the chimney. They both had so much fun Christmas morning! Cooper's favorites...his Cranium Carnival Clubhouse and Spiderman blow-up punching bag from Santa, his pinball game from Nana and Papa, his Wii game from Gma and Gpa, and his "Life Saver" (light saber). Gunner's favorites were Santa's leftover cookies (the first thing he ran to), his McQueen tent and pillow from Santa, his play piggy-bank and light saber from us, and his "Scooby-Doo Where Are You? cars" from Cooper.

*GUNNER'S 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTY!: Yes, he is now officially 2, although the fits started a couple months ago! We celebrated at Chuck E. Cheese with Gpa and Gma Larson and the Waite family (Andrew's sister). He loved his "Cars" party and playing all the games with cousins. He also loved the "bite" out of the cupcake after he blew out his candles (a family tradition). He has also started to create some mischeif with his best friend/cousin, Ella. They spilled a can of paint in my mom's basement, and Gunner broke a big glass bowl in my parents room! He also loves to boss people around and wrestle (which girls aren't that into, but he hasn't learned that yet). He is such a cutie though, and we'll post more about him later.

*FUN WITH THE WAITE'S AND GMA AND GPA: Our week in Spokane was filled with fun thanks to Andrew's parents and sister, Artie's family. Cooper loved going to his "friend's house". We went bowling, ate out, went to a movie, and more! Cooper also visited his cousin, Tate, at preschool and loved it!. It was a busy, fun week. We also got to be there for our nephew Tyler's baptism!

*OUR BELATED ANNIVERSARY: Part of my Christmas present from Andrew was an overnight to a jacuzzi suite in Coeurd'Alene, while his parents watched our kids. It was so fun to finally celebrate our 7th anniversary that was actually in July while Andrew was at officer's training. We went to dinner, a movie, relaxed!, and went to lunch the next day. What fun!

*EATING!: Between reunion meals together, junk food, neighbor treats, Hudson's Hamburgers, Cafe Chulo, PF Changs, Thrifty Scotts, Taco Time, Toro Viejo, Pau Pau's Kitchen, Gma's Ham and Prime Rib dinner's, etc. etc, we were NEVER HUNGRY!

*READING "TWILIGHT": Yes, I finally did it...in 2 days. Thanks everyone for the suggestion, and for watching my kids while I read! :) Now I'll have to neglect my family and read the next 2. :)

*SISTERS: Thanks Brynne for coloring and cutting my hair (I went dark!), and for the company. I love my sisters and sister-in-laws, and can't wait to live closer to them. Mikin, thanks for bringing your kiddos over to play too!

Baby Boy #3!!!!

We had our ultrasound yesterday and found out that we are expecting baby BOY #3. He is completely healthy...which was a big relief for me, because I still haven't felt him move! I had some wierd dreams...but now I know he is fine! My placenta is on the outside this time...so the doctor said I probably won't feel him move for a while.

On the way into the ultrasound I asked Cooper if he thought it would be a boy or girl, and he said, "Its a boy!". I said, "I think so too...do you want to bet your Dad (who thought it was a girl)". When they came into the ultrasound and the guy told him, "Well...it's a BOY!", Cooper said, "I just...I knew it!" It was really cute. I asked him later if he was sad he wasn't getting a baby sister, and he said, "No....don't worry mom...you can have a girl someday." It was cute. So Cooper is REALLY excited to have another baby brother.

Andrew said it was a "win-win" situation for him. He asked if I wanted to get pizza to celebrate, and I said, "sure, but you know we would be getting P.F.Chang if it was a girl, right?" He said, "Well good, cause we can't afford P.F. Chang!" And I said, "Probably good, because we can't really afford a girl right not either." :) It was funny. I know I would have gone crazy shopping...so it probably is a good thing during residency to have another boy.

When I told Andrew, "You know this means we're for sure having 4 kids right?!", he said, "I can't handle FOUR boys!" :)

Names right now: Easton, Beckett, Parker...but Andrew just informed me he hasn't ruled out all others too...so who knows!

Over the past few days I have thought about all the amazing women I know who have 3 or more boys in a row, and have made it look easy! Just to name a few....my mom, Aunt Paula, Luke and Janna, Brent and Jen, the Jones', the Wiers, the Landreth's, the Naylors, the Gees, the Wirigs...I hope I can just be half the mom most of these wonderful women are! It will be fun!

As he did the ultrasound I just had that overwhelming love for him come over me. It was SO fun! I am so excited to have another spirit from our Heavenly Father in our home!

Here are a few more pictures. The first is a feet picture. You can see the bottom of one foot, and the profile of the other.

Here is a profile picture with his hand in his mouth

Here's another profile

Finally, here is a 3D picture of the tummy and feet crossed at the ankles. I guess the head was too close to the placenta, and going through the placenta he couldn't get a good 3D head shot...but he did say I could come in at 26 weeks (the best time for 3D ultrasounds), and he would do one for free for fun. Don't ya love the military! :) We are excited because he showed us some he'd taken at 26-28 weeks of other babies, and they were amazing!

Way of Lights

So our ward has a weekly email update that is so great...and they give us tips on things going on in the area. They had information about the "Way of Lights" at a Shrine close by. We weren't completely sold, but for free...we thought it would be a good FHE...even with the 25 minute drive.

Well, we were AMAZED!!! You stayed in your car for about a 10-minute drive through tunnels and tons of lights! They had scriptures posted along the side of the road as you drove and you basically followed the story of Jesus' birth. You see the shepherds, the 3 wise men on their camels, the city of Bethlehem, and then you can pull over and get out at the nativity, where they had Christmas music playing. I have never seen so many lights in my life! The pictures don't do it justice (especially because I didn't get out my camera until the end). Besides bruising my foot on a prayer bench while trying to take a picture of the boys...it was an amazing family home evening. It makes me wish we were going to live here longer so we could do it every year!
